Guided Eucharistic Holy Hour

A one-hour guide for prayer before the Blessed Sacrament

Preparation — 5 minutes Place yourself quietly in the presence of Jesus Christ, truly present in the Most Blessed Sacrament. Make the Sign of the Cross and ask the Holy Spirit to help you pray.

Come, Holy Spirit Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful and kindle in them the fire of Your love. Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the earth.

Let us pray. O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in His consolations. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Adoration — 10 minutes Jesus, my God, I adore You, here present in the Blessed Sacrament of the altar. I believe that You are truly present—Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. I worship You with the angels and saints, and I offer You my whole heart.

Remain in silent adoration. Gaze upon the Lord and allow Him to gaze upon you.

Thanksgiving — 10 minutes Thank Jesus for the gift of Himself in the Eucharist, for the Sacraments, for His Passion and Resurrection, and for the particular graces of your life.

Soul of Christ, sanctify me. Body of Christ, save me. Blood of Christ, inebriate me. Water from the side of Christ, wash me. Passion of Christ, strengthen me. O good Jesus, hear me. Within Your wounds hide me. Permit me not to be separated from You. From the malignant enemy defend me. At the hour of my death call me, and bid me come to You, that with Your saints I may praise You for ever and ever. Amen.

Scripture and Meditation — 15 minutes Slowly read one of the following passages: John 6:35–58; John 15:1–17; Luke 22:14–20; Luke 24:13–35; or 1 Corinthians 11:23–26.

Read the passage again. Notice the word or phrase that draws your attention. Speak to Jesus about it, then listen in silence.

Contrition and Reparation — 5 minutes O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You, and I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of Heaven and the pains of hell, but most of all because they offend You, my God, who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to confess my sins, to do penance and to amend my life. Amen.

Merciful Jesus, accept this time of prayer in reparation for offenses against Your Sacred Heart and against the Most Blessed Sacrament.

Intercession — 10 minutes Pray for the Church and the Holy Father; for bishops, priests, deacons and religious; for vocations; for peace and justice; for the suffering and the dying; for your family and friends; and for those who have asked for your prayers. Present your personal intention to Jesus.

Closing — 5 minutes My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Blessed be God. Blessed be His holy Name. Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true Man. Blessed be the Name of Jesus. Blessed be His Most Sacred Heart. Blessed be His Most Precious Blood. Blessed be Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. Blessed be the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete. Blessed be the great Mother of God, Mary most holy. Blessed be her holy and Immaculate Conception. Blessed be her glorious Assumption. Blessed be the name of Mary, Virgin and Mother. Blessed be Saint Joseph, her most chaste spouse. Blessed be God in His angels and in His saints.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
