Psalms of Comfort

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. Fresh and green are the pastures where he gives me repose. Near restful waters he leads me, to revive my drooping spirit. He guides me along the right path; he is true to his name.

Though I should walk in the valley of the shadow of death no harm would I fear, for you are at my side; your rod and your staff will give me courage.

You spread the table before me in the sight of my foes; you anoint my head with oil; my cup is overflowing. Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord for length of days.

Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in distress. Therefore we are not afraid, though the earth should rock, though the mountains fall into the depths of the sea; though its waters rage and foam, though the mountains tremble at its surging.

There is a river whose streams bring joy to the city of God, the holy dwelling of the Most High. God is within, it shall not fall; God will help it at dawn.

The nations are in uproar, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold.

Psalm 121

I lift up my eyes to the mountains: from where shall come my help? My help shall come from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not suffer your foot to slip; he who watches over you will not sleep. Indeed, he who watches over Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord himself watches over you; the Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your soul. The Lord will keep watch over your going and coming both now and for evermore.
