Psalms of Deliverance

Psalm 34

I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise always on my lips; in the Lord my soul shall make its boast; the humble shall hear and be glad.

Glorify the Lord with me; together let us praise his name. I sought the Lord, and he answered me; from all my terrors he set me free.

Look toward him and be radiant; let your faces not be abashed. This poor man called; the Lord heard him and saved him from all his distress.

The angel of the Lord is encamped around those who revere him, to rescue them. Taste and see that the Lord is good; happy are those who seek refuge in him.

Fear the Lord, you his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing. Strong lions suffer want and go hungry but those who seek the Lord lack no blessing.

Psalm 18

I love you, Lord, my strength, the Lord is my rock, my fortress, my deliverer. My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield, the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge.

I call upon the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies. The waves of death surged round me; the torrents of perdition overwhelmed me.

The cords of the netherworld entangled me; the snares of death confronted me. In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry to him reached his ears.

The earth reeled and rocked; the foundations of the heavens trembled; they reeled because he was angry. Smoke rose from his nostrils, consuming fire from his mouth; burning coals blazed forth.

He reached down from on high, he took me; he drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemies, from those who hated me and were too strong for me.

They confronted me at the day of my disaster; but the Lord was my support. He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.

Psalm 40

I waited, I waited for the Lord; he stooped toward me and heard my cry. He drew me out of the pit of doom, out of the mud and clay.

He set my feet upon a rock and made firm my steps. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn to our God. Many shall see and fear and put their trust in the Lord.

How great is the Lord’s goodness, which he has laid up for those who fear him, which he has wrought for those who take refuge in him, before the eyes of all mankind.

He has shown his saving power in the sight of the nations. He has remembered his kindness and faithfulness to the house of Israel.

All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
