Psalms of Hope and Confidence
Psalm 27
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; before whom shall I shrink?
When evildoers assail me to devour my flesh, these my enemies and foes will stumble and fall.
Though an army encamp against me, my heart will not fear; though war be waged against me, even then will I trust.
One thing I ask of the Lord, this I seek: to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.
For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will set me high upon a rock.
Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his tent I will offer sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the Lord.
Hear my voice when I call, O Lord; be merciful and answer me.
Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.
Teach me your way, O Lord; lead me on a level path because of my enemies.
Do not abandon me to the will of my foes; for false witnesses have risen against me, breathing out violence.
I believe I shall see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord; be strong; take heart; and wait for the Lord!
